Didgeridan’s Whirlwind Mexican Tour!

Our own Dan Flynn made the papers in Español!

About a month ago, Dan drove his monster van into Mexico. Via Facebook, he’s kept us up-to-date on his journey. He’s learning the language, enjoying the people, collaborating with musicians, and loving the freedom to busk without arbitrarily restrictive regulations. It’s been exhilarating to watch his progress. His CDs are selling like hotcakes – or tamales, or something. He’s had to sell burned copies while waiting for more to print and arrive from Mexico City. dan flynn

Did you notice Socks Diablo on his shoulder there? Just when you thought Dan couldn’t get more Dan, the final piece snapped into place, and he’s off like a rocket! I’m so happy for my friend. I wish I could be a fly on the wall of that audience, seeing their reaction to this unusual music and this talented man.

And I love that cat!

Small World!

I just got the craziest call from Marko. He recently met a girl who “met a girl on a flight home from Peru in 2011” who gave her his card. It was me! The “small world”ishness of the whole thing is that she contacted him after another referral from someone else entirely, with whom she attended a yoga retreat in Yelapa, Mexico. It was when she met Marko, on the recommendation of this other person, that she recognized him from the business card I gave her 2 years ago. (Stranger still, Marko and I vacationed together in Yelapa 3 years ago!)

Her name is Trista. She’s a yoga instructor here in Salt Lake City. Marko gave her a didjbox, The Micro, in exchange for a lesson or two. I hope to meet with her soon to discuss the benefits of the didgeridoo as pertains to breathing, i.e. meditation, pranayama. I’m planning to write an article for The Catalyst, an independent magazine here in town.

I’ll keep you posted. But… crazy, no? Small world, indeed!

Didge Nose

Here’s a shot of Marko in Puerto Vallarta 3 years ago. Wonder if the sculptor was inspired by tribal art and music. Wish we were there now… It’s cold in Utah! didge nose
I can hear the drone and surf even now!

While we’re in Mexico and on the subject of aboriginal art, here’s my favorite picture of Marko ever, on the same trip.

The Micro

After years of playing with size and dimension Marko has arrived at his desired product. The Micro comes in at 1.75″ x 5″ x 9″, and plays in the Key of C.

I love this didjbox! The back pressure is really supportive, and the tone is incredible. Rich, low, beautiful. The Micro is so small, of course, that you can cover the end with your hand, creating even more back pressure and easing the process of mastering circular breath. I begin to see how didge players get addicted to that meditative feeling.

And it’s so pretty! 🙂 The Micro is made from a solid mahogany block. I love that deep color, the sheen, and the sleek exterior. Perfect for travel! http://www.didjbox.com/
